How to Hire the Right HVAC Contractor
It isn’t fun when your heating or cooling goes out, especially when it chooses to go out on the hottest or coldest days of the year. Hiring a reputable HVAC company is important not only for your home- but for your wallet as well. Today we are going to cover how to find and choose the right heating and cooling company so that if or when the time comes, you know exactly what to do.
Ask friends and family
Asking friends and family who they have used in the past is a great place to start. Friends and family can give you an honest opinion of who was worth the money and who had the best customer service out there. The last thing you want to do is spend an entire day calling companies trying to figure out who sounds the nicest and won’t take you for all your hard earned cash. Don’t know who to ask? Join a community group on Facebook and ask the masses. They are usually more than willing to cough up the good, the bad and the ugly. Once you compile a list of recommended companies, make sure to hold onto them before you start calling. Having a working list leads us to our next step in choosing the right company.
Check online reviews
Now that you have a list of highly recommended HVAC companies- take yourself to the internet to do some due diligence. There are tons of review sites out there like Yelp, Angie’s List, and Facebook that you can do some research on. Checking review sources would allow you to see how they have treated past customers and how they have stepped up if everything didn’t go quite as planned. Knowing that a company performs under pressure is going to be the company you want in your home.
Make sure they are licensed
Can a guy work out of his truck without a business license? Sure. It happens all the time. What happens when something goes wrong on the job and you are left with the bill and the problems? That is why it is better to check before instead of writing the check after. Make sure to look their license numbers up and make sure they are a business that can operate in your state. Are they insured? Can they handle your job if something goes unplanned? Doing your research before you hire a heating and cooling company will keep your home cool and let you keep your cool.
Check scheduling
Odds are if your heating or cooling system is on the fritz- so are other people’s. Make sure to not fall in love with just one company. If it is the hottest day of the year and the company you picked first can’t get out to your for a week- well you are going to need and want a backup company to call. Make sure that you have a few companies on your list that you like so that if one falls through- you can call another and see if you can get on their schedule.
No matter what company you choose- making sure you take these steps before the repair will save you costly time in the future. No one likes a hot home, but no one ever likes to have one taken over on them. Be a vigilant homeowner and check off these steps prior to hiring a contractor.
